Spring Time

Well it’s spring time and that means several things. One, my time spent inside on my computer is taking a backseat slowly and surely to being outside. Especially now since I have a house of my own to keep up with I have plenty to do including weeding, planting, mowing, painting, cleaning and all the joyous things home ownership brings. Another thing that comes with spring time is the NBA playoffs and as you all may know, my Denver Nuggets are killing it so far this year. I really haven’t missed hardly any games at all this year (thank God for Altitude), and I do mean from game one in the fall to game one of the playoffs and up until now. I am not your run of the mill local band wagon jumper; I even placed a bet on them to win back in October right after the Rockies blew it! Doesn’t it grind your gears when you are devoted and supportive of your team regardless of their record and then they finally are doing well for themselves and all these faux-fans come out of the woodwork, laying claim that they were always down for the cause?! Vacation

Hello all! Well I am about 13 hours away from being in Cabo San Lucas! I am excited for some sun, fishing and r&r. I will be there starting tomorrow and will return on Saturday the 4th. We plan to go fishing for two days and hopefully this year I get the marlin that escaped me last year, I still have nightmares about that thing. Anyhow, I still have a few things to do before getting on that plane tomorrow.

I was on-call all of last week and am short on sleep, not to mention today I closed on my first house all by myself! I feel like a big boy now! It’s been a crazy few weeks for me so this is much needed and I plan to take full advantage of it.

I hope all is well with you and if you haven’t yet pitch in a few bucks for the March of Dimes!! Talk to you when I get back and I will throw up some pictures too!

UPDATE 4/28/2009:

Well least to say things have been busy since I got back from vacation. However here are the pictures I promised, and I had a great, relaxing, low key time. The only downside was that we didn’t even get a bite while fishing but I managed to catch enough sun rays to severly burn my skin. Enjoy the pictures!

An Update & Holiday Wishes

Hello all. It has been a while since I have made a post. Probably because I was on-call this past week and a slew of personal and work related things going on I haven’t had time to do much else as far as side projects, reading or anything like that goes. I just wanted to mention a few of the things in the queue for the site and what I am currently working on.

  1. iTunes Tools – I have received a few posts and e-mails about this and some bugs which I plan to work on when I get some time. Please feel free to let me know if you also have noticed things not working properly or even things you would like to see (within reason). You can see an earlier post about this in my Blog to get to the SourceForge project and gather any more information, or feel free to post here or in the forum.
  2. Commenter – I bought a couple AJAX books a while back and have been slowly working my way through them, doing the walk through’s, trying some things, playing around and so on. I have a working Commenter application like the one you might see on this post, but it uses AJAX and is visually pleasing. I am working on getting it touched up for my own site as well as the ability for someone else to install it and use it as they see fit. There will be more to come on this as well, I just thought I would mention it now.
  3. Data Grid – Along with the commenter mentioned above I have been fooling around with a data grid to make database and dynamic content editing simple and user friendly. Right now it is basically a paginated grid of all the data in the specified database with the ability to edit that data in it’s place using AJAX. It is in it’s early form and I will be working to make it as easy as possible to use and incorporate into your or any site. Look for more information on this too as it progresses.

Aside from all of that my job has been keeping me busy right before the Winter Holiday freeze and there are other things going on in my life as well that have kept me very busy. I wanted to make this post to let everyone know I didn’t forget about this site and am working on things just not as fast as desired.

I also want to wish everyone a happy and safe Holiday Season! I know around my neck of the woods it has been very, very cold the last few days and the road conditions have been iffy to say the least. Hopefully everyone has a great Christmas and a good break heading into 2009, I can’t believe it’s already here, where did 2008 go?!

DBC Forums!

Just recently a friend suggested that I add a place to add questions for me or for whoever wants to take a stab at answering them. Originally I figured that anyone with a question could just use the contact form on the page to e-mail me. However that could get fairly busy for me and there are plenty of qualified people out there to answer these things!

After all that I decided the best way for people to discuss these things with me and others is to open up a forum for the site. I will add categories and such as they are needed but for now things are pretty basic. There might not be a lot of traffic initially but I hope it will prove to be useful for visitors of this site.

You can visit the forums from a direct url here: forum.designsbychace.com

You can also navigate there through the More section of the site or on the footer navigation.

Seven Pounds Premiere

Nov. 21st 8:20am – My cousin works for the Denver Broncos in the operations department, which I keep telling him is a pretty sweet job, he travels with the team, checks the players in and out of certain places. Gets to go in the locker room, on the sidelines, etc. Anyhow, it turns out that a bunch of the players for the team have tickets and are going to the first showing and premiere of the new Will Smith movie Seven Pounds tonight at 7:30. The radio and my cousin also said that Will Smith himself will be there on the red carpet for the event, along with who knows how many other celebs. My cousin was fortunate enough to get a few tickets to the show and he asked me if I wanted to go! I have never been to one of these events before so this should be an interesting experience. I will post more after I attend on how the movie was, who all was there and maybe even some photos if I am lucky enough to get to take some.

Nov. 22nd – After waiting in the cold for almost two hours we were allowed into the theater to see the movie. Before that took place we were caged up like livestock in front of the theater awaiting Will Smith and a speech. There were a couple local news vans, KYGO a country radio station in Denver as well as KS1075 Denver’s hip-hop and R&B station in attendance. Larry Uliberry was the master of ceremonies in a way, in that he introduced Will Smith and the others speaking at the Premiere. Also gracing the red carpet with their appearances were Brandon Marshall and Champ Bailey of the Denver Broncos. There were several other players but not as big of named players. Plus after Will Smith gave a short speech and donated 300 turkey’s to the Rocky Mountain food bank Frank Lucas style Champ Bailey and Brandon Marshall presented Will Smith with a #1 Broncos jersey with Smith on it. Hopefully a star as big as Will Smith has better taste and isn’t really a closet Broncos fan. See some photos of all this below and a short review of the movie afterward. I didn’t remember my digital camera so these photos were taken from my iPhone. Sorry for the quality, but lay off me, it’s the best I could do!

The movie itself I enjoyed. It wasn’t a heavy action movie which is typical with Will Smith movies. It had a very unique tempo and time line. To be honest because if the order of events I was a bit confused in the beginning of the movie but then clarification was later revealed. I think that this was a very inspirational yet borderline controversial movie. Will Smith gives a different type of performance than you are used to seeing him play.

I could try to explain the storyline to you, but then it would take away from the opportunity to view the film without a lot of background knowledge. I think part of the films power is for us the viewer to interpret what we see for ourselves, rather than have someone explain it. Will Smith plays an IRS agent named Ben Thomas. You know that either something bad happened or is going to happen from the very first scene of the movie in which Ben Thomas (Will Smith) is shown on the phone reporting a suicide. One of the topics of discussion after the movie will undoubtedly be Ben Thomas’ plight. It truly is a quality movie, that gives a message to the public in a very powerful way and will make anyone take a moment to think about their own life and actions.

It is a fairly clean movie, that I feel would be appropriate for children except they probably wouldn’t understand most of it or be bored with the tempo so in that respect you might consider taking the kids to Madagascar 2 before this one.

Touching moral and ethical issues in this movie will definitely pull at most people heart strings, so if you don’t want your buddies to see you get misty maybe watch this one with the old lady.
